DET e-Trader license
Home and social-media selling for UAE and GCC nationals. No office, and no corporate bank account.
Ecommerce setup 2026
Selling online needs a licence. e-Trader, free zone or mainland depends on who you sell to.
Sell online legally
An ecommerce license is a trade license carrying e-commerce activity codes. It is legally required to sell online in the UAE under Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2023.
There is no single ecommerce license. There are three routes, and the right one is set by who you sell to and how you get paid.
| Factor | e-Trader | Free zone | Mainland |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who it is for | UAE/GCC nationals | Foreign founders | Sell across UAE |
| Foreign ownership | N/A | 100% | 100% most |
| Sell direct to UAE | Own emirate | Via agent only | Unrestricted |
| Corporate bank | No | Yes | Yes |
| Office | Home | Flexi-desk | Ejari office |
| License cost | Lowest | Lean | Higher |
| Issued in | 1-3 days | 3-5 days | 5-10 days |
The fit check
Three questions decide it: your nationality, who you sell to, and whether you need a corporate bank account.
The costly mistake is picking a free zone for its low fee while your customers are UAE consumers. If most of your first-year revenue is domestic, that saving reverses the moment you need to deliver.
The honest nuance
A free zone license is not a license to sell anywhere. Here is what it can and cannot reach inside the UAE, and the three legitimate ways around the limit.
A free zone company cannot sell direct to UAE mainland consumers. If your buyers are in the UAE, mainland is cleaner.
Real ranges
Three routes, three cost pictures. A single 'from AED X' figure hides which route it belongs to. These are 2026 planning ranges by route, not a fixed tariff.
Home and social-media selling for UAE and GCC nationals. No office, and no corporate bank account.
100% foreign ownership, a flexi-desk, and a corporate account. Cannot sell direct to UAE mainland consumers.
100% ownership on most activities and unrestricted UAE market access. Sell direct to consumers and government.
Tell us who you sell to and your visa count, and we return an itemized quote by route, renewal included.
Renewals are annual and usually lower than year one. Ask for a written quote before you commit to any figure.
The process
Seven steps. The license is the fast part. Plan your launch around the bank account and payment gateway, not the license date.
e-Trader, free zone, or mainland, set by who you sell to and how you get paid.
The right codes let you sell what you actually sell and pass marketplace checks.
Submit name options that follow UAE naming rules for approval.
A free No Objection Certificate to practise an e-activity, via UAE Pass, about 2 working days.
Pay the fees and receive the trade license, 1 to 5 working days by route.
The real bottleneck. Budget 2 to 4 weeks, longer for online-only international owners.
Stripe, Telr or PayTabs go live only once the license and account are in place.
Selling on marketplaces
Both marketplaces accept UAE ecommerce sellers, but only with the right license and a way to be paid.
Amazon.ae and Noon both require a UAE trade license carrying ecommerce activity codes. Mainland and free zone licenses both qualify, and Amazon also accepts the e-Trader license.
Marketplaces pay into a corporate account in the company name. This is where the e-Trader route runs out of road, since it cannot open one.
A service or media license fails marketplace verification if you sell physical goods. Mismatched codes are a common, avoidable rejection.

2
The license and the corporate account both gate marketplace payouts
The license is issued in days. Getting paid takes longer. Payment gateways need a valid license and a corporate bank account in the same name, and account opening usually runs 2 to 4 weeks.
We line you up with the bank most likely to approve an online business like yours, rather than applying everywhere.
Shareholder documents, a clear business model, supplier relationships and expected volumes, ready before you apply.
Once the account is live, we connect Stripe, Telr or PayTabs so you can take payments legally.
Banks DMCS has a track record opening ecommerce accounts with
Three obligations that arrive after the license, each on its own trigger. Miss the trigger, not the rule, and the penalty still lands.
Mandatory once taxable turnover passes AED 375,000 a year, voluntary from AED 187,500. Charge 5% on UAE sales.
9% on profit above AED 375,000. Free zone 0% applies only to qualifying income under strict conditions.
Needed to import physical stock into the UAE. Some product categories carry their own approvals.
Dropshipping is a fulfilment model, not a license category. Declare how you actually operate to avoid a mismatch.
What you bring

Why DMCS
Most ecommerce pages are written by a business selling one route. We are route-neutral. We recommend the route that fits how you actually sell.
Founders get a fast license, then stall for weeks because the bank account and payment gateway were not planned for. We sequence all three from the start.
We will tell you when a low-cost e-Trader permit is all you need, and when a free zone is the wrong call because your customers are in the UAE.
The same team files your license, secures the TDRA NoC, opens the bank account and connects the gateway, so nothing falls between handoffs.
Government lines and our service fee, separated and confirmed for your activity and visa count before you commit, renewal included.
Real results from our clients
Real Google reviews from founders we have set up and kept compliant on the Dubai mainland.
Thank you to the team for supporting us with our company setup. Our case was not straightforward, especially the bank account opening, but they stayed committed and got it done.
I had a great experience opening a corporate bank account. The process was smooth and efficient. The staff were friendly, professional, and explained everything clearly.
The accounting and bookkeeping service has been exceptional. Attention to detail is impressive, and communication is always clear. Tasks are handled promptly.
They confirmed our activity grouping before filing and flagged an issue the bank would have raised. Licensed in under two weeks with no surprises on the invoice.
We came for a mainland LLC and stayed for renewals and PRO work. The same team answers the phone after the license is issued, which is rare here.
